FRANKLIN — John Wild has won basketball state championships at three different schools.

John Wild has been named the Franklin High girls basketball coach.

He will get a chance to win a fourth at Franklin.

Wild was named the school's girls basketball coach on Friday, replacing Darrell Barnwell. Wild had spent the past two seasons at Wilson Central.

"This is a move that meets my professional career goals and objectives at this point in my life," Wild said. "I think it meets my family's objectives, too."

Wilson Central finished 30-3 this past season, reaching the Region 5-AAA semifinals. He was 63-4 in two seasons at the Wilson County school.

Wild, 50, won a Class A boys basketball state championship while coaching at Moore County in 1999. A year later, his Bradford girls team won a Class A title. His most recent championship came in 2012 when his Riverdale girls squad won the Class AAA championship.

Wild has a 518-172 career record. He will teach world history.

"His reputation speaks for itself," Franklin athletic director Jay Johnson said. "He had a great interview. Most people know him and his record. He was on our radar. Him being able to come here was a huge hit for us."
