Elite 8: North Side soccer is new No. 1

The Best of the West tournament allowed fans to see some of the top soccer talent in West Tennessee on one field.

North Side and University School of Jackson play for the tournament championship on Saturday.

But other teams had good showings.

1. North Side (15 A-AA) (10-0-1) – The Indians are still unbeaten through 11 matches this season, and they did earn the No. 1 seed in the West Division of District 15 A-AA. Results: Beat Jackson Christian, Dyersburg; Tied Lexington. Last week: No. 2.

2. Lexington (14 A-AA) (8-4-2) – The Tigers came close to knocking off North Side, but they did claim the No. 1 seed in the South Division of District 14 A-AA. Results: Beat McNairy Central, Dyersburg; Tied Jackson Christian, Lexington. Last week: No. 3.

3. Jackson Christian (15 A-AA) (7-2-2) – With Marshall Davis out with his arm in a cast, the Eagles had a tough time in the Best of the West Tournament. But they are still the No. 2 seed from the West Division of District 15 A-AA. Results: Tied Lexington; Lost to North Side. Last week: No. 1.

4. Sacred Heart (Division II-A) (4-2-2) – The Knights took this past week off, but they have two matches this coming week with Tipton-Rosemark on Monday and Madison on Wednesday. Results: Did not play. Last week: No. 4.

5. USJ (Division II-A) (9-4-1) – The Bruins have improved as the season has gone on, and they advanced to the championship match of the Best of the West tournament. Results: Beat TCA, Chester County; Tied Madison. Last week: No. 7.

6. Madison (15 A-AA) (7-3-2) – The Mustangs started the week out strong with a win over TCA and tie against USJ. Madison ends the season Wednesday against Sacred Heart. Results: Beat TCA; Tied USJ, Chester County. Last week: No. 5.

7. McNairy Central (14 A-AA) (8-1-1) – The Bobcats lost their lone match of the week to end the regular season. They will be the No. 2 seed from the South Division of District 14 A-AA. Results: Lost to Lexington. Last week: No. 6.

8. Trenton Peabody (14 A-AA) (9-3-1) – The Golden Tide tied their lone match on the week, but they have already secured the No. 1 seed from the North Division of District 14 A-AA. Results: Tied Covington. Last week: No. 8.

Teams eligible for the Elite Eight rankings are those who represent schools from The Jackson Sun’s 13-county circulation area: Madison, Gibson, Henderson, Chester, Hardeman, Haywood, Crockett, Weakley, Carroll, Benton, Decatur, McNairy and Hardin.
