Meet The Commercial Appeal all-metro boys bowling team

Meet the semifinalists for The Commercial Appeal's boys bowler of the year.

The winner will be announced the inaugural Commercial Appeal Sports Awards at the Opheum on June 9.

The semifinalists and their two guests are invited to attend the ESPY-type awards show for free. Tickets are on sale for the event are also available for $31.50 at sportsawards.commercialappeal.com.

More than 100 Memphis-area athletes and coaches will be honored at the event, which will also feature guest speaker Archie Manning.

BOWLER OF THE YEAR SEMIFINALISTS

Nick Agnew, St. Benedict

Nick Agnew, St. Benedict, junior: The winner of state’s bowler of the year award, Agnew had the top average in Tennessee during the regular season. On Dec. 6, he rolled an 809 series and ended with a 227.66 mark.

Will Drummond, CBHS

Will Drummond, CBHS, junior: It was a good season for the Brothers, who battled St. Benedict tooth-and-nail in Division 2. Drummond was one of the standouts, averaging 202.79 for the regular season and finishing sixth at state.

Nic Ferrante, St. Benedict

Nic Ferrante, St. Benedict, junior: Ferrante helped the Eagles repeat as Division 2 state champions while compiling a 208.43 average. He also placed fourth in the state tournament, one of four Shelby County bowlers in the top six.

Ross Jenner, Collierville

Ross Jenner, Collierville, junior: Jenner posted a 203.50 average for the Dragons before going on to finish in fifth place at the Division 1 state tournament. He is a repeat member of the all-metro team.

Jimmy Morrow, MUS

Jimmy Morrow, MUS, junior: Another repeat all-metro selection, Morrow was the top local finisher at the Division 2 state meet. He took second place, capping a fine year that saw him average 201.87 during the regular season.

Conner Nichols, St. Benedict

Conner Nichols, St. Benedict, senior: The Commercial Appeal’s bowler of the year as a sophomore, Nichols wrapped up his career by helping the Eagles win their second straight Division 2 championship. He ended the year with a 206.08 average and ended up fifth at state.

Terry Salvant, Middle College

Terry Salvant, Middle College, senior: For the third straight year, Salvant was the top Shelby County finisher at the Division 1 state tournament, ending his excellent career with a third-place finish. For the season, the four-time all-metro choice had a 218.22 average which also led Division 1 locals.

Chris Smith, Harding

Chris Smith, Harding, junior: A three-time all-metro performer, Smith averaged 211.61 during the regular season, third among Shelby County Division 2 competitors.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Eric Wells, St. Benedict: Wells guided the Eagles to their second straight Division 2 team championship in 2017. It’s the fourth overall for the team.
