Greg Glass has resigned as athletic director and boys basketball coach at Independence.

Glass, who compiled a 102-52 record in five seasons at Independence, has stepped down in order to become an assistant principal at Lebanon High School.

“I’m going to a school out of the district, and I’m just waiting for all that stuff to get finalized,” Glass said. “For my first three years I was taking graduate classes (at Lipscomb University). ... It was a goal of mine (to become an assistant principal), and when this opportunity came about I felt like I couldn’t pass it up.”

“There’s never a good time to leave.”

Glass, who led the Eagles to two District 11-AAA championships along with a Region 6-AAA title during his five-year tenure, said that he will not be coaching at his future school.

Independence, which is coming off its most successful season in school history, finished with a 24-11 record and advanced to the Class AAA quarterfinals a season ago. The school's search for its next head coach will begin immediately, Williamson County athletic director Jeremy Qualls said.
