A little more than a month after committing to play basketball at East Tennessee State University, Station Camp’s Chase Freeman has a new destination.

The Bison senior decommitted from ETSU on Monday after receiving a full scholarship offer from Wagner College (N.Y.). Freeman had committed to the Buccaneers in March as preferred walk-on.

Instead, he’ll join the Seahawks on scholarship, which took a major burden off of his shoulders.

“It's a blessing, Freeman said. “My parents sacrificed so much for me and now them not having to pay for college is amazing.”

Freeman said Wagner contacted him after he had committed to ETSU, and he was offered a scholarship this past weekend.

A three-year starter at point guard for the Bison, Freeman averaged 19.9 points, 4.1 assists per game and 3.9 rebounds per contest this year. Station Camp finished 20-11 after a 62-50 loss to Clarksville Northeast in the quarterfinals of the Region 5-AAA Tournament. He was named Player of the Year on the All-Sumner County Team.

Wagner is a NCAA Division I program in the Northeast Conference under head coach Bashir Mason.

The Seahawks opened last season with a 67-58 victory at Connecticut and finished with a 16-14 record after a 71-70 loss to St. Francis in the Northeast Conference semifinals.
