Austin-East High School has hired former Tennessee football player Anthony Anderson as its new girls basketball coach.

Anderson currently coaches the Austin-East track team along with his father, Sam, who was a four-time football Tennessee High School Coach of the Year.

In his five years at UT, Anderson played in 39 games, mostly as a special teams contributor and a reserve wide receiver and defensive back.

Anderson graduated from Austin-East following the 2006-07 school year. During his time as a Roadrunner, he was a three-year starter on both offense and defense.

As a senior, he hauled in 48 catches for 1,010 yards and 14 touchdowns while also recording 67 tackles, two fumble recoveries and six interceptions en route to being named to the All-PrepXtra team. He also played point guard and ran track.

He replaces Gwen Jackson, a former Lady Vol who coached the Lady Roadrunners for the past five seasons. During her tenure, Austin-East posted a 28-65 record. Jackson starred for Tennessee from 1999-2003, averaging 11 points and 5.7 rebounds per game for her career. She was the 27th Lady Vol to reach the 1,000-point plateau in program history.
