Notre Dame High School has named Dan Clotfelter as the new Irish volleyball coach. The former Emory and Henry College coach has over 15 years of collegiate, high school, and club experience.

“Notre Dame is excited to have someone the caliber of Dan Clotfelter leading the Irish volleyball program.

He is highly respected in the volleyball community and his experience will be a tremendous asset to our program” said Matt Pobieglo, the Irish’s athletic director. “Dan’s ability to teach the game and his experience in building highly successful programs at the high school level make him a great fit for Notre Dame.”

Clotfelter spent 10 seasons coaching at The Walker School in Atlanta, Georgia where he built the volleyball program into a perennial state championship contender. During his tenure he led the Wolverine program to four Final Fours, four Elite Eights, and two Sweet Sixteen appearances. He was a four-time area coach of the year and amassed 276 wins over the 10 year span. Clotfelter then coached at Emory and Henry College where he had three straight winning seasons and coached eight All-Conference selections.

“I am really excited about taking over the volleyball program at Notre Dame, Clotfelter said. “The program is ready for success on the court within the district and I believe we can grow to become a player in the state playoffs in the coming years. One of the greatest pleasures of coaching at the high school level is getting to follow your student-athletes after they leave for college and start their adult lives. I feel confident that while I am preparing them for success on the court, Notre Dame is preparing them for success in life.”

Clotfelter has a successful background in club volleyball as he has served as the youth development director for the A5 organization in Atlanta. Clotfelter helped to create the organization that would grow to 30 teams and over 300 players. His teams secured bids to four straight USA Volleyball national championships and A5 led all clubs with 14 bids to national play in 2010.

Clotfelter holds a level II certification from the USA Volleyball coaching accreditation program and has been a keynote speaker at the American Volleyball Coaches Association. He received a bachelor of arts degree in marketing from the Georgia Institute of Technology and is married to Emily Haught, who was a two-year letter-winner on the Yellow Jackets’ volleyball team.
