The Creek Wood girls basketball program is in search of a new head coach.

Former head coach Sam Young has departed from the program and will be returning to Houston County.

Young went to Creek Wood principal Polly Spencer Monday morning to inform her of his decision, and then informed his team shortly afterward.

"He felt like the decision was better for him and his family," said Creek Wood assistant principal and current athletic director Marcus Peters. "We've talked with the central office, and will be posting that position and beginning our search."

Summer basketball camps for the Lady Red Hawks have already been scheduled, but Peters is looking to find replacements for those camps if the position has not yet been filled by then.

"(Creek Wood boys basketball coach) Charles (Taylor) is here. We may have some conversations about taking our girls to camp," Peters said.

"We may be looking at an interim situation. We just don't want to pigeon hole ourselves because we have those camps. We can manage through the camp season, and then we want to find the best person for the position."

Young led the Lady Red Hawks to a District 11-AA championship, the program's fifth in a row, his first year as head coach. He amassed an overall record of 22-9 (14-2 district) and helped guide them to the Region 6-AA semifinals.
