MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A year after being disappointed with a state runner-up finish a year ago, David Crockett high jumper Addisyn Rowe will leave with the top prize this year.

Rowe claimed just the fourth state title in David Crockett history Thursday at the TSSAA Class AAA State Track & Field Championships at MTSU’s Dean Hayes Soccer & Track Stadium.

Struggling in the later part of the season to get past 5-4, Rowe easily clipped that mark with a 5-6 and to claim the gold medal with room to spare as no other jumper cleared higher than 5-2.

Rowe joins dual 1999 state shot put champions Brad Kyker and Susanna Robertson and 1979 decathlon state titlist Gary Rose as Pioneers to win a state championship.

Volunteer’s Morgan Salyers logged a third-straight all-state performance with a sixth-place in the triple jump (35-2).

The LMU signee struggled with an early season injury but battled back for the career-best state finish. Salyers was seventh two years ago as a sophomore and eighth as a junior last year.

“I’m relieved that I medaled again, but I didn’t think that I would,” said Salyers. “I was ranked 12th coming in so I didn’t think I’d make the finals, let alone the podium because I was injured early in the years and my jumps hadn’t been that good.”

Dobyns-Bennett’s Kelsey Bailey just missed making the final round in the triple jump, but still managed a tenth place finish with a jump of 34-3.

Other local all-state performances came in Wednesday’s shot put competition as Boone’s Caitlin Cutshall finished fourth (10-0) and Science Hill’s Julia Parr seventh (9-0).

The Lady ‘Blazers also got a sixth-place finish from Maria Chellah in the 400 meters (59.53).

Dobyns-Bennett logged three eighth-place finishes. Khyra Gambrell was eighth in the shot put (108-0), Sophia Neglia in the 3200 meters (11:28.59) and from the 4x400 meter relay team (4:05.27).

Crockett’s Daniela Palomino threw the discus 108-2, good for a seventh-place finisher.

Whitehaven edged Brentwood 89-83 for the team title, paced by 44 individual points from Kiara Rhodes who took the pentathlon (3382 points) on Monday and doubled in the hurdles on Thursday with a 14.10 in the 100 meter hurdles and a 43.94 in the 300 meter hurdles. Rhodes was also second in the high jump (5-2) and third in the long jump (18-5).

Kethlin Campbell of Shelbyville also won three gold medals with wins in the 100 meters (11.73), 200 meters (24.21) and long jump (20-3½). Brentwood’s Katherine Coffey swept the throws, landing a 140-1 in the discus and a 43 11½ in the shot put.

Unicoi County’s Stephanie Wisse and the Elizabethton throwing tandem of Camryn Korona and Jasmine Roberts led the local contingent in the Class A/AA portion of the day.

Wisse got started on Monday with a runner-up finish in the pentathlon (2816) and logged a third place in the 100 hurdles (15.51), fourth in the 100 meters (12.44) and fifth in the 300 meter hurdles (47.88) on Thursday.

Korona and Roberts finished 2-3 in the discus and the shot put. Korona went 35-4¼ in the shot and 117-10 in the discus while Roberts was 34-5¾ and 106-7 respectively. Signal Mountains Camryn Bowman won both events with marks of 39-2¾ in the shot put and 133-0 in the discus.

Other local highlights that produced all-state performers including Unicoi County’s Hailey Hawkins who finished fourth in the pole vault (8-0) and Elizabethton’s Heather Feuchtenberger, third in the 800 meters (2:19.01). Sullivan South’s tallied 2381 points for an eight-place in the pentathlon.

CAK’s Rebecca Story and Lennex Walker of Chattanooga Arts & Sciences stole the show individually, combining for nine state championships.

Story swept the 800 meters (2:16.64), 1600 meters (5:06.57) and 3200 meters (10:53.33) and also ran on leg on the Lady Warriors’ winning 4x800 relay team.

Walker went one better winning the pentathlon (3306), long jump (18-11¼), triple jump (36-3), 100 meter hurdles (14.19) and 300 meter hurdles (45.02).
