Top performers from the final day of Spring Fling

Here’s a look at some of the top Nashville-area performers from the fifth and final day of the TSSAA Spring Fling Championships in Murfreesboro:

Baseball 

Ryan Weathers, Loretto, Jr.: The Vanderbilt commitment registered 12 of his state tournament record 28 strikeouts in the Mustangs’ 4-0 Class A championship win over Goodpasture. For the tournament, the Vanderbilt commitment gave up just four hits in 14 scoreless innings on the mound, and the Class A Mr. Baseball winner also went 9-for-11 from the plate with eight runs, six extra-base hits and five RBIs. 

Philip Clarke, CPA, Sr.: After tallying just two hits in his first 10 tournament at bats, the Vanderbilt signee went 2-for-2 with home run off Class AA Mr. Baseball Spencer Stryder of CAK, helping lead the Lions to their second state title in three seasons. 

Luke Reidy, Brentwood, Sr: Reidy, who homered in Thursday’s semifinal win over Dobyns-Bennett, went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs, helping lead the Bruins to their first state baseball championship in school history with a 5-3 win over Stewarts Creek.

Soccer

Tyler Jessen, Station Camp, So.: Jessen scored the game-winning goal in Friday’s 1-0 Class AAA championship win over Houston — the Bison’s first TSSAA team title in school history — burying a 53rd-minute assist from teammate Chase Freeman.  

Andrew Metkler, Page, Sr.: Metkler spotted his squad an early advantage with a seventh-minute in Friday’s Class A/AA title match. Unfornately for the Patriots, they were unable to hold on, falling to Greeneville 2-1. 

Softball

Madison Woodard, Creek Wood, So.: Woodard provided her team’s only run in Lady Red Hawks’ season-ending loss to CAK, launching a second-inning solo shot in the 2-1 defeat. 

Brice Dabbs, Friendship Christian, Sr.: Dabbs went 3-for-4 with a double and a run in Friendship Christian’s 13-4 Division II-A championship defeat to The King’s Academy. 

Carson Warner, Forrest, Jr.: Warner went 2-for-3 with a triple in the Lady Rockets’ 11-5 Class A championship loss to Meigs County.

Track & Field

Jeremy McDowell, Maplewood, Sr.: McDowell won both the 100-meter (11.08) and 200-meter (22.0) dashes at Friday’s Class A/AA state meet. 

Jalen Tate, West Creek, Sr.: Tate won the Class AAA triple jump with a distance of 48 feet, 3 1/2 inches, and he also finished runner-up in the long jump (22-6.5).

Donovan Whitmore, Siegel, Sr.: Whitmore won the Class AAA 200-meter dash with a time of 21.83, and he also finished runner-up in the 100-meter dash (10.97).
