Having won a Class A state championship at McKenzie, Jeremy Maddox has the ability to lead a team to be one of the elite in the area.

Maddox now has the opportunity to lead another West Tennessee team as Trinity Christian Academy chose him as the new head baseball coach on Tuesday.

"Coach Maddox comes to this position as a proven winner," TCA athletic director Ken Northcut said during a press conference Tuesday. "Not only are we getting a coach with outstanding credentials, but more importantly, we are getting a man of great integrity that has a passion for what we believe is just as important as winning on the diamond and that is training young champions for Christ."

Maddox has spent the past couple of seasons as an assistant coach at TCA, and Robert Craft will remain as an assistant coach.

"I am thankful to the administration at TCA for giving me the opportunity to be a head coach of this program," Maddox said.

Maddox also has been a head coach at Union City after his tenure at McKenzie, and during his head coaching career, he has won two district titles and two region titles, reached four sectional games and won the 2006 Class A state championship.

"I am excited, and I don't think you know how excited I really am," Maddox said. "The framework for TCA baseball has been put in place, and it is there for something really special to happen."

One word Maddox used throughout his speech was passion.

"Yes, I am passionate about baseball," Maddox said. "Yes, I am passionate about the program. But what I am really passionate about is seeing kids reach their full potential. Does that mean you are going to be a Division I baseball player? Some of you may be. Does that mean after high school you may not play another game? Some of that may be true also. I am going to try to teach you to be the best baseball player possible, and in turn be the best student you can possibly be. The wins will take care of themselves."
