Halls boys and girls basketball coach Randy Moore has resigned from the school to pursue "business endeavors" in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Moore's resignation was effective Tuesday.

"Halls is a great place," Moore said. "There's a great administration, great kids that played for me - my two sons both graduated from there and had great experiences. I think it's the best administration in Knoxville and I thank everybody there for my time spent there. I will cherish it for the rest of my life."

The eight-year coach pulled double duty while at Halls leading both the boys and girls basketball teams. As the boys coach, Moore went 108-117 while making three Region 2-AAA tournament appearances. He posted a 125-95 record leading the girls team, reaching the region tournament three times.

"The school will feel his absence both on a basketball level and a teaching level," Halls assistant principal and athletic director Meagan Miller said. "He was a great asset to the school. We love Randy and we wish him all the best, and whoever comes in to replace him will have big shoes to fill."

Miller said that the school is open to hiring two separate coaches instead of having one coach both teams, but added that there is only one teaching position available, meaning the second coach would likely have to be a current Knox County Schools employee.

"We're open to whatever comes to us," Miller said. "I don't know that we'll be able to find somebody like Randy who wanted to do both and could do both well."

Halls plans on beginning interviews for the position on July 10 when administrators return following the dead period.
