Creek Wood hires Wilson as girls basketball coach
The Creek Wood girls basketball coaching position has been filled.
Former Charlotte Middle coach Russell Wilson has taken over and will serve as the head coach for the Lady Red Hawks this upcoming season.
Wilson has been coaching for almost 20 years, and has served as an interim coach for the Lady Red Hawks prior to the hiring of former coach Sam Young.
"We were thrilled when Russell applied, " said Creek Wood assistant principal Marcus Peters.
"We had people from all over and some great candidates, but when we looked at the total package and the best fit for the school, it was Russell. He's won a lot of games, and has shown that he's a tremendously effective coach. There's a certain level of comfort, because he's either had these girls on his team, or coached against them when they came through White Bluff. He's familiar with these players, and it was just a good fit."
