Two days after accepting the head girls basketball position at Tennessee High, Mike Goforth had a change of heart.

Instead, Goforth announced Saturday morning he was staying at Union High School in Big Stone Gap where he will retain his previous position as the Bears’ Athletic Director.

“After much thought and prayer, I've made the decision to stay at Union,” said Goforth in a post on his Facebook page

Goforth went on say to his decision was solely based on his family, which he said included his wife, his children and Wise County Schools.

“Time is very important to me and I want to devote my time to my family,” he added.

Tennessee High Athletic Director Barry Wade said he received Goforth’s resignation Saturday morning, one day after Goforth had started his new gig replacing Wade.

“I am shocked over his (Goforth’s) resignation,” said Wade. “He reported to duty with the other teachers yesterday, but sent us an e-mail with his resignation this (Saturday) morning.”

Wade, who just took over as the AD at Tennessee High, said no plan was yet in place to re-open the search for a new girls’ coach.

“Our administration team will meet Monday morning and determine how we will move forward,” explained Wade.
