For the second straight season, Hardin County graduate Ashley Channell was named to the Dexter/USBC High School All-America Team.

Hardin County's Ashley Channell (center) won the Miss Bowler of the Year award on Thursday. Hardin County's Faith Welch (right) was a finalist.

Channell, a Louisiana Tech signee, finished her high school career with seven state championships – three individual and four team. This past season, she led her team to a fourth-straight state championship and a runner-up finish in the individual state tournament.

She was one of five female bowlers selected as an All-American.

National championships: Earlier this summer, the Hardin County boys and girls bowling teams competed in the 2017 U.S. High School Bowling National Championship.

Both teams won a state championship in January, and they both had strong showings in the national championship at Smyrna Bowling Center.

The Lady Tigers finished as national runner-up in a tournament with 30 teams competing, while the Tigers finished sixth in a tournament of 42 teams.

Channell finished fifth in the individual completion, just missing out on the cut for the top four.

Volleyball playday: After all of the football jamborees are played on Aug. 11, the volleyball team from 21 schools will gather at Freed-Hardeman University for the annual FHU Playday.

This will give fans a first look at the volleyball teams in the area. Admission is $5.

Matches begin at 8 a.m., and the last match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Teams will be given 50 minutes per match with a nine-minute warmup time.

FCA Invitational: Monday might be the first day of school in Jackson-Madison County, but it is also the annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes Golf Tournament at the Jackson Country Club.

Teams from across West Tennessee will gather at the country club for a 9 a.m. tee time.

University School of Jackson boys have won the event for the past four seasons, and the Bruins are the favorite to win it for a fifth time this year.

Crockett County's Madison Myers is the 2017 All-West Tennessee Softball Hitter of the Year.

Crockett County’s Myers commits to Pensacola State: Before the 2017-18 school year begins, one Crockett County softball player has decided where she will play her college ball.

Myers committed on Wednesday to play at Pensacola State.

The centerfielder was named the 2017 All-West Tennessee Softball Hitter of the Year after batting .608 avg with 65 runs scored, 10 doubles and 16 RBI as a junior.

Greenfield’s Moore picks up another OVC offer: After already having an offer from UT Martin, Greenfield sophomore Chloe Moore picked up an offer recently from Jacksonville State.

Moore was named the 2017 All-West Tennessee Girls Basketball co-Newcomer of the Year after averaging 14.9 points, 4.0 assists and 2.9 steals as a freshman.
