Graham Clark had more fashion than football on his mind before his first game as a high school football coach as a Powell Valley assistant in 1977.

“I can still remember running out on the sidelines in my blue polyester pants and my blue shoes and thinking, ‘Boy, we are looking good.’ That seems like yesterday,” smiled Clark.

Clark spent two years with the Vikings and coached one year at Appalachian State before landing his first head coaching job at Chilhowie where he went 19-3 in 1980 and 1981.

Newly hired Dobyns-Bennett coach Ted Wilson lured Clark back to his alma mater in 1982 and when Wilson retired following the 1992 season, Clark was named as the Tribe’s 17th head football coach.

The 2017 season will be Clark’s 41st season overall on the sidelines, his 36th at Dobyns-Bennett and 25th as head coach.
