The high school football season kicks off Friday across Tennessee.

Four of five Robertson County programs will be in action in Week 1.

Jo Byrns is open this week, kicking off its season Aug. 25 against Cascade in a non-region game.

Springfield must wait until Week 2 to host their first home game in its new stadium.

Springfield opens its season at Gallatin on Friday in a rematch of last year's 35-28 home loss.

“We have to stop the run (against Gallatin),” Springfield coach Dustin Wilson said. “They are going to make us play physical. I don’t expect anything less from (Gallatin coach Mark) Williams. We’ve coached each against one another for a long time, we know each other well.”

The good thing for Springfield? Gallatin must replace all-time leading rusher Jordan Mason, who is a freshman at Georgia Tech.

The Patriots will use the home opener against West Creek as a motivator to get back into the playoffs. The Patriots made the playoffs from 2012-2015, but failed to convert last season. Coach Hunter Hicks believes his team must win Week 1 to set the tone for the season.

“We are a young football team. We have a bunch of players who are first time varsity players, so a week one win is important,” Hicks said. “West Creek is a very skilled, athletic team. We have to play sound, solid defense and move the chains on offense.”

The Indians are seeking their first Week 1 road victory since 2011, when they took down Stewart County, 21-19.

Coach Chad Broadrick believes getting a week one victory is crucial to start on a positive note.

“Every team is going to play hard on Friday,” Broadrick said. “We have to prepare and get better overall. We’re going to line up just like White House is, whoever can execute better is going to get the win.”

Greenbrier vs Kenwood

With the annual Greenbrier-Springfield matchup pushed to later in the season, the Bobcats host the Knights in hopes of their first week one victory since 2013.

“We’re going to have to play extremely well to say the least. Kenwood is a very athletic team. They’ll be a tough matchup for us,” head coach John Elmore said. “We have to cut down on our mental mistakes and capitalize.”
