Fairview Jackets to open with Battle of 840 Friday night
New Touchdown Club to host tailgate party, changes to game parking
The Fairview High School football season will open this Friday night as the Yellow Jackets take on cross-county rival the Page High Patriots in the annual Battle of 840.
As Page High's enrollment pushes them into the 5A TSSAA classification this year, the 3A Yellow Jackets are determined to hang on to the bronze Battle of 840 trophy. The Jackets are also looking to set a new attendance record.
Fairview High Head Football Coach Chris Hughes said, “We will need to play sound football to compete (against Page).”
Hughes said the team looks good and he expect them to compete for another region title.
The Jackets are strong at quarterback with Kam Harris-Lusk and the defense should prove worthy with Tristan Mann at linebacker. “That gives us a leader on both sides of the ball,” said Hughes. The Jackets will also have Jeffrey Perez. “And that gives us best kicker in region, if not state,” remarked Hughes.
Perez won the 2016 Battle of 840 for the Jackets with a last-minute field goal.
Kick off for the most publicized and celebrated Week One football game in Williamson County will be 7 p.m.
Tailgating Time
To stir up the Jacket spirit, Fairview High has also launched a Touchdown Club and will host a pre-game tailgate party starting at 5 p.m.
The Williamson County Game Day Crew will be at the Nest with their full "ESPN-type" pre-game set up.
Savory Smoke’s full service barbecue food truck will be serving up plates and donating 10% of sales back to Fairview football. Fairview Fried will be selling famous funnel cakes and fried Oreos for dessert along with Tika's Shave Ice snow cones.
Grace Chapel will provide a courtesy tent for the pre-game meal. Plus there will be a bounce house for the children and fireworks for all ages to enjoy.
Game announcer Bert Hester said, “It's the place to be this Friday night! Get behind your new home team! Jacket Nation, wear your swag!”
FHS will also be selling new Yellow Jacket items at the game including t-shirts, hoodies and jackets.
Parking Reminder
Fairview High School administrators want to remind fans of a few changes in parking this year.
FHS Principal Dr. Juli Oyer explained, “Fairview football fans who choose to park on the Fairview Middle School hill, facing the stadium will pay $10 a car. This does not include game admission.”
Parking in the lot off Highway 100 will also be $10 a car while space is available.
“All proceeds of this fundraiser will go to the Fairview High School Touchdown Club,” stated Oyer, who added that the Touchdown Club makes generous donations to the JROTC program and Fairview High School at the end of football season.
“These funds are used to purchase items specifically for FHS students and teachers. All funds work to enhance the greatness of Jacket Nation,” Oyer stated.
