Trinity Christian Academy senior running back Viktor Horton has one more year to make his mark on the Lions' football team.

On Friday night, he got his senior season off to a good start as he rushed the ball 13 times for 155 yards and four touchdowns in one half of play against Jackson Christian.

The Lions won 54-0.

Horton ran aggressively and hard as the TCA offensive line opened lanes for the Lion running back to run through, and he also powered through would be Eagle tacklers when necessary.

“Viktor is a very physically talented player, who has really developed into a fine player and leader for us over the last couple years,” said TCA coach Blake Butler. “He was elected a team captain by his teammates this season and I am very proud of who he has become off the field as well.”

With sophomore Matt Spurgeon clearly seated as the starting quarterback this season, that should make the Lions' offense able to run smoother and control the ball easier than last season when the Lion’s rotated three quarterback.

“Having Matt at quarterback every down will make the reads easier as to when he is going to pull the ball out and run it himself, which will take some of the pressure off of me,” said Horton. “Plus having the same person handing the ball off should cut down on turnovers.”

Horton is not just focused on football or sports, it is evident that he is focused on being a student-athlete and a good Christian.

After the game, he first gave credit to God and his parents for his success on the field.

“I just first want to thank God for giving me the physical abilities to play this great game, and I want to praise my family for teaching me up to be a good student," Horton said.

When asked about goals for the season, Horton once again showed great humility in his answer.

“Our goal is to do the best that we can each and every day and to keep striving for God, working for Him,” he said.
