Chester County's B.J. Burton (1) looks for a hole against Trenton Peabody during a scrimmage on Friday.

Chester County Principal Ricky Catlett confirmed on Tuesday that B.J. Burton is no longer part of the football program.

Burton did not play against University School of Jackson on Friday, but his No. 1 jersey was worn by Brennan Phelps. Phelps had 154 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Catlett and Chester County coach Michael Hodum declined to comment specifically on what caused the dismissal, stating only that it was a violation of team rules.

Both also said that Burton would not return to the team at any point this season.

Burton rushed for 826 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, averaging 8.5 yards per carry. He also had 17 tackles, including four for loss in 2016.

Chester County hosts Adamsville on Friday.
