When Chester County and Adamsville meet on Friday at Chester County in a Week 2 matchup, one will be coming off of its third regular season loss since the start of the 2014 season.

The other is coming off of what is considered the biggest Week 1 upset.

But in this rivalry, any momentum can be thrown out of the window.

"We have to be ready every single week," Adamsville coach Brandon Gray said. "It is hard to make a schedule because for some reason teams don't want to play us, so we have to play up.

"For us, we just have to clean up a few mistakes. We knew Bolivar was good and that we had to match them touchdown for touchdown. We were down 28-21, and we threw and interception on the 10-yard line. We then had five plays on the next three possessions with turnovers."

Chester County upset University School of Jackson 28-27 during Week 1.

"It is good for our kids to start the season off with a win, especially in a close game," Chester County coach Michael Hodum said. "You spend the whole offseason preparing for the first game, and if you take it one game at a time, you are going for Game 1 even though you should be preapring for the season. Now you have six days to get ready for the next one."

While the win over USJ was good for the players, now Hodum works to get his team ready for Adamsville.

"We have to get settled down," Hodum said. "You have to get last Friday out and get this Friday in your mind. It has become a rivalry with Adamsville, and Coach Gray does a great job, and they are a first-class program."

Adamsville's Tylon Walker (4) tries to break away against Bolivar on Aug. 18, 2017.

Gray and his coaching staff also have a lot of respect for Chester County.

"Chester County is physical and well-coached," Gray said. "We beat them last year, but they scored on the first play of the game. We had a great day of practice on Monday, probably the best all season. We just have to get back to playing football and not make mistakes."

Hodum said that there are a few matchup problems with Adamsville, but his team has to be ready.

"This game is going to be like any other," Hodum said. "We don't have the speed like they do. They have speed at positions we don't have, and we are outsized on the line. We have got to be conditioned, play hard and play with a lot of heart.

"We also can't turn the ball over. We didn't have one last Friday, and you can't turn the ball over against good teams."

Gray also brought up about Chester County not turning the ball over and how that will be key Friday night.

"In high school football, the team will the less turnovers usually is going to win," he said. "We have got to take care of the ball."

Hodum also knows that Friday's game against USJ could have also been a loss, if the Bruins had hit the two extra points that got blocked.

"We have not spent a lot of time on PATs, but this group knows that every play is important," Hodum said. "It comes down to attitude. We have had some teams that don't take PATs seriously or they are still upset about the touchdown, but this game showed that every single point counts. We have kids willing to play every single play of the game hard."
