It seems like the Creek Wood Red Hawks have developed a case of amnesia and have forgotten about their win against Dickson County last Friday.

Not that it’s a bad thing, as the Red Hawks are not going to dwell on past results and are ready to turn their attention to a trip to Cheatham County Friday.

“I think we’ve moved on,” said Creek Wood coach Houston Thiel.

“It’s all about Cheatham County now. We talked to them on Friday night, saying ‘great win, enjoy it for 24 hours, but now we have to shift our attention.’”

The two teams are certainly no strangers. The Cubs eked out a 30-28 win last year, and have won four of the past five contests. Cheatham County beat Hunters Lane 40-8 in the first week.

“Cheatham County is a good team,” said Thiel.

"These guys have grown up playing against them, just like they’ve grown up playing against the guys from Dickson. Even though it’s not a region game, I consider it a rivalry, because they’ve played each other a lot in the past and have been in the same region in the past.”

Cubs quarterback Landon Barnes is someone the Red Hawks will have to take into account as an electrifying playmaker. The senior and three-year starter threw and rushed for over 1,000 yards last year.

Landon Barnes runs the football during Cheatham County's 40-8 win over Hunters Lane.

“He’s a big-time player, really quick. Once you turn on the tape, he’s a guy that catches your eye pretty quick,” said Thiel.

Although the Red Hawks may have moved on from their big in-county win against Dickson County, Thiel doesn’t want his team to lose the momentum they gained from the win.

“I think, more than anything, we’ve got confidence,” said Thiel.

“The kids are starting to believe in what we’re doing, both offensively and defensively. Now we’re here, and ready to go back to work.”
