Clarksville area high school football top games for Week 2
With the season openers in the books, Montgomery County football teams shift their focus to Friday night's contests.
Only three of the Clarksville area teams won last week while eight started the season 0-1, making this week already a pivotal point in the young season.
Here is a look of some of the area's top games. The USA TODAY Network - Tennessee’s George Robinson will be picking the winners.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Montgomery Central at Kenwood
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Kenwood (0-1) has something to prove after getting run over by Greenbrier 32-6. The Knights and Indians have developed a nice rivalry the past few years while they played in Class 4A together. Kenwood won the previous two meetings (28-23 in 2015 and 31-28 in 2016) so Central (0-1) has incentive to end that streak.
Robinson's Pick: Montgomery Central 21, Kenwood 20
Clarksville High at Springfield
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Coming off an emotional high after beating Rossview 15-13, Clarksville High (1-0) has been busy preparing to play in its longest-running rivalry against the Yellow Jackets (0-1). Rossview may be CHS' most intense rivalry, but this game dates back decades. Springfield is looking to rebound from that 24-7 loss to Gallatin.
Robinson's Pick: Clarksville High 17, Springfield 10
Rossview at Christian County (Ky.)
When: Friday, 5:30 p.m.
Out of the fire and into the frying pan for Rossview. The Hawks lost in the final minutes to Clarksville and now face Kentucky's No. 2-ranked Class 5A team in the Jerry Claiborne Bowl at the Stadium of Champions in Hopkinsville. The Hawks struggled in the first half last Friday to get into the end zone. The Colonels won't make it any easier.
Robinson's Pick: Christian County 28, Rossview 10
Whites Creek at Northwest
When: Friday, 7 p.m.
Former Rossview coach Ron Lambert returns to Clarksville as coach of Whites Creek. But he'll be facing a Vikings team in a bad mood after dropping its opener to Southwestern (Ky.), 41-6. The Vikings are playoff team from a year ago and expectations have been high after last fall's success.
Robinson's Pick: Northwest 31, Whites Creek 24
