All Robertson County schools were in action Friday, with all earning victories except for White House Heritage.

Greenbrier keeps rolling

Greenbrier coach John Elmore

The Bobcats earned a 29-16 win over West Creek to give them their first 2-0 starts since 2012.

“It was a big win,” Greenbrier coach John Elmore said. “It was a physical game, anytime you can get two wins in a row is big, it helps build your confidence.”

Micah Escue was the leading Bobcat rusher with 125 yards and two touchdowns. Escue made his presence known on defense where he had two inceptions and a forced fumble which he recovered.

Greenbrier plays at Creek Wood on Friday as they try to earn the Bobcats' third consecutive win to start the season, a feat they haven’t accomplished since 2004.

“They have some big guys and run the ball very well,” Elmore said. “Of course they are 2-0 as well so it’s going to be a big matchup for us.”

Greenbrier opened the season with a win over Kenwood.

White House Heritage still winless

After a 42-7 defeat against Fairview, White House Heritage coach Hunter Hicks and the Patriots are still seeking their first victory of the season.

“We played a really good Fairview team.” Hicks said. “Fairview showed up to play and we’re still a very young football team. If we eliminate our own penalties and turnovers, we can stay competitive.”

Running back Tommy Baker rushed for the lone touchdown in the loss.

The Patriots began the 2015 season 0-3 before punching out nine consecutive wins to reach the Class 3A quarterfinals.

White House Heritage travel to Springfield on Friday.

“We have to get rid of our mental mistakes,” Hicks said. “We have to keep the ball out of their hands, Springfield is very athletic and can beat us in a lot of ways.”

East Robertson bounces back

East Robertson's Cameron Swift

A shutout in week one did not define the season for East Robertson coach Chad Broadrick and the Indians.

In fact, East Robertson scored on every possession expect for one in their 54-24 win over Richland.

“Our kids played well,” Broadrick said. “We have to continue to practice hard. Monday through Thursday is when you win or lose games, not Friday nights.”

East Robertson’s Cameron Swift was responsible for three scores in the win. The quarterback returned a punt for a touchdown in addition to throwing and rushing for a score.

“When you wake up the next day whether you win or lose you are still concerned about the next game,” Broadrick said. “Our kids are excited, but you have to focus on the next game.”

Jo Byrns shuts out Cascade

The Red Devils waited a week to play their first game, but did not wait long to earn their first win.

Jo Byrns shutout Cascade 38-0 in their home opener.

"It was a good team win to open the season at home in front of a good home crowd," Jo Byrns coach Tom Adkins said.

Eric Herring led the way for the Red Devils with 147 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

The Red Devils start a three-game road trip beginning with a trip to Monterey for a region contest.

"We're familiar with one another because we're in the same region," Adkins said. "In the recent history these games have been real close. If we take care of the ball, we'll turn out okay."
