Last Thursday the Cumberland County Lady Jets hosted Smith County in district volleyball play.

The Lady Jets came out strong but lost the first set in a close battle 25-27. The next set Cumberland County mounted a comeback, winning 26-24. However, the third and fourth set went to Smith County 18-25 and 19-25, ultimately giving them the victory.

Scoring for CCHS was Amelia Hawkins with eight kills, Alaysha Cydrus with six, Becca Jones  with five kills and Bailey Mueller and Madison Curry with three kills.

Serving strong for Cumberland County was Jordan Dixon with seven aces, Madelyn Carter with four, Curry with two and Hawkins added one as well. Stepping up the defense were Mueller and Becca Jones with three blocks each.

Carter also added a block. Becca Jones led the team with 21 digs, Jordan Dixon followed with 19, Amelia Hawkins with 13, Bailey Jones and Chloe Richardson with six digs, Carter with three and Cydrus and Curry each had a dig as well in the contest. The Lady Jets will be traveling to Stone Memorial to take on the Lady Panthers Thursday, Aug. 31.
