Eagleville's Henry Martin (56) wraps up a Forrest player during Friday's 21-20 Eagles win Friday.

Rain, fumbles, missed kicks.

Those are all things that took Eagleville and Forrest into overtime Friday evening.

The Eagles managed to take advantage of the last mistake, winning 21-20 in the Region 5-2A battle after the Rockets missed a PAT.

“The weather wasn’t too much of a factor,” said Eagleville quarterback Ethan Cobb after playing on a nearly flooded field. “It was just a cold, wet night and you just have to play through it. That’s football.”

Play through it is exactly what Cobb did. The junior willed his team late in the fourth with a touchdown pass to sophomore Trevor Griffin to tie the game at 14. He wasn’t done after that. The signal caller was the only Eagle to touch the ball in overtime, plunging in for a one-yard run to win the game.

“You saw it down here in overtime,” said Eagleville head coach Floyd Walker on the importance of his junior quarterback to this year’s success. “Nobody else touched the ball, but him.”

“He’s one of those kids that believes in his ability. The kids believe in his ability. When the game is on the line, he’s the kid that’s going to make a play.”

Cobb finished the night’s annual rivalry game going 13-of-20 for 128 yards and a touchdown. The junior also rushed for 68 yards on 13 carries and scored the game-winning touchdown.

Coach Walker was beaming when asked of his starting quarterback, but was quick to say that he wants to get more players involved in the game plan.

“We rely a lot on Ethan Cobb,” said coach Walker after the game. “We’re going to try to get everyone involved. We didn’t execute at a high level tonight and that was kind of disappointing from an offensive standpoint.”

Sitting at 3-0, the Eagles will travel to Lewis County on Friday.
