South Side beat Obion County 26-21 during Week 4.

In a hard fought game, Obion County escaped Jackson with a 26-21 victory over South Side.

“We have to learn to finish games,” said South Side coach Tyler Reeder. “We cannot play a good team like Obion County and turn the ball over like we did tonight.”

Here are five takeaways from the Rebels' win during Week 4.

Triple option: Obion County runs the triple-option offense much like Georgia Tech does. Teams are forced to commit to stopping the run, but the Rebels have the ability for big passing plays.

The Rebels completed three passes, one of which was a halfback pass for 61 yards, for a total of 156 yards and one touchdown. Those three plays proved to be a difference maker.

Missing pass offense: South Side struggled to establish a passing game, and that hindered the Hawks' ability to move the chains on multiple third down plats. South Side was 4-of-15 passing for 40 yards, and that allowed Obion County to pack the box and stop the run game.

Momentum changer: South Side's Tyrelle Turner proved that he had the ability Friday to to change the momentum in the Hawks' favor.

Turner had a 75-yard kick return for a touchdown with 43 seconds remaining before halftime. South Side scored 14 unanswered points in the second half to take a lead.

Much improved teams: Obion County and South Side are proving that they are not going to be easy wins for anybody.

Neither team had much success last year with the Hawks finishing 1-9. But both of these teams have played well at times early in the season.

Obion County upset Dyersburg in Week 3, while South Side had wins over Ripley and Chester County heading into this one.

Work horse: Running the triple-option gives the quarterback the ability to utilize multple players int he offensive attack.

On Friday night, Obion County went to Hunter Smith with the majority of the carries. Smith rushed the ball 26 times for 109 yards and a touchdown as he pounded into the the Hawks' defensive line.
