Creek Wood Red Hawks seeking first region win vs. Montgomery Central

Creek Wood coach Houston Thiel has made it clear that he’s not overlooking any opponent. Especially not one that’s a Region 5-4A foe.

The Red Hawks, now sitting at 3-1 on the year, have an opportunity to grab their first region win Friday when they travel to Montgomery Central. The Indians are winless on the year at 0-4, but Thiel thinks their record doesn’t reflect the way they perform on the field.

“They're a good football team,” said Thiel.

“A lot of people might look at their record and think they're having a down year, but they're a good football team. They suffered an injury early on with their quarterback, They've been battling back trying to get back into the flow of things offensively, but defensively they're very sound.”

The Red Hawks lost last year’s game 38-33 in a nailbitter, which was also a region contest (Region 6-4A last year). Thiel doesn’t think it won’t be hard to motivate his team despite the winless opponent, considering what’s on the line.

"It's an easy pitch this week, because it's a region game," said Thiel.

"That's our one loss on the season, is in a region game. I think our guys are hungry to get on the board and get a region win. That's been our motivation, focusing on ourselves, and not what Montgomery Central has done.”
