Fairview High Lady Jackets demonstrate teamwork on the volleyball court.

“We have had a roller coaster of a season,” described Fairview High School head volleyball coach Amanda Franson.

The Lady Jackets have generated big wins.

On September 9, the Lady Jackets traveled to compete in the McEwen Varsity Volleyball Tournament.

The young ladies of Fairview won pool by 30-point margin, beating Lead Academy, Madison Academy, and Hardin County. They also beat Montgomery Central which earned them a shot at the championship in an intense match with Lawrence County. The Lady Jackets earned a second place in the gold bracket.

They have also experienced some close and tough losses, but they continue to represent Fairview High displaying great determination and talent.

Leading the team’s efforts are the team captains, juniors Maddy Simmons and Dani Tidwell. “Both girls are also our kill leaders,” reported Coach Franson.  Dani Tidwell has tallied up 142 kills while Maddy Simmons had 102, as of last Wednesday.

Players named as a Lady Jacket varsity volleyball starter include setter Cailie Viau, middle front Kaylee Bartee, left front Kylie Wanninger, left back and front Maddy Simmons, middle back and Front Dani Tidwell, right front Victoria Pierce, and libero (defensive specialist) Neyland Yeager.

Coach Franson is happy with the display of teamwork, “Maddy, Dani, Cailie and Neyland have been playing together for years and are a dynamic foursome.”

Fairview High senior Kaylee Bartee (right) leads the Lady Jackets in kills.

There are also a few non starters making a positive impact for the Lady Jackets. Those include sophomore Bella Collins and freshmen Apryl Johnson and McKenna Spicer.

“We have young talent on the team, and we plan to keep building on it,” stated Coach Franson.

The combination of old and young players is working this season. Franson noted with Kaylee Bartee’s height and skills combined with some young passers, “We have been able to do some great things this season.”

Among those younger players making a strong showing, Coach Franson shared, “Apryl Johnson has stepped up big as a freshman, not even batting an eyelash when put on varsity. She meshed with the older girls from the beginning, which has been a huge asset to the team.”

The Lady Jackets will host Camden at home today Tuesday, September 19 with junior varsity game starting at 5 p.m. and varsity taking the court at 6 p.m.

On Thursday, September 21, Fairview will host Montgomery Central with JV game starting at 5 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m.

The final regular season home game for the Lady Jackets will be Monday, September 25 against McEwen.
