Lexington up to No. 2 in Jackson area's Elite Eight girls soccer rankings

A look at the top high school girls soccer teams in West Tennessee, as ranked by the USA Today Network – Tennessee. Teams eligible come from The Jackson Sun’s 13-county coverage area – Madison, Gibson, Henderson, Chester, Hardeman, Haywood, Crockett, Weakley, Carroll, Benton, Decatur, McNairy and Hardin counties.

1. South Gibson (9-1) – The Lady Hornets knocked off Dyersburg for the second straight time with the previous time coming in the district title game last year. Last week: No. 1. This week: Tuesday vs. Obion County; Thursday at Covington; Monday vs. Madison.

2. Lexington (7-4) – The Lady Tigers went up to Gatlinburg and played well in the Smoky Mountain Cup, going 2-1. Last week: No. 3. This week: Tuesday vs. Chester County; Thursday at USJ.

3. USJ (5-3-1) – The Lady Bruins bounced back from two losses with two wins over district opposition to sit in a tie for first place. Last week: No. 4. This week: Tuesday vs. Fayette Academy; Thursday vs. Lexington.

4. McNairy Central (8-0) – The Lady Bobcats picked up another shutout win this past week to stay unbeaten on the season. Last week: No. 5. This week: Tuesday at Fayette-Ware; Thursday at Chester County; Saturday vs. Adamsville.

5. Adamsville (4-0) – The Lady Cardinals picked up the fourth shutout of the season, but matches will be tougher this week, and they play three times. Last week: No. 7. This week: Tuesday at Scotts Hill; Thursday vs. Loretto; Saturday at McNairy Central.

6. Madison (4-5) – The Lady Mustangs lost four straight matches against out-of-area competition, but they bounced back with two straight District 12-A victories. Last week: No. 2. This week: Thursday at Dyersburg; Monday at South Gibson.

7. Chester County (7-3) – The Eaglettes now have won five straight matches and are unbeaten in District 13-AA play. But they play the other two unbeaten district teams this week. Last week: No. 8. This week: Tuesday at Lexington; Thursday vs. McNairy Central.

8. Jackson Christian (6-2) – A bad second half doomed the Lady Eagles, but they will try to bounce back this week. Last week: No. 6. This week: Tuesday vs. Westview; Monday vs. TCA.
