Football – offense

Caleb Johnson, MAHS: In the words of coach Cedric Miller, the senior running back "put us on his back" in last week's 20-12 victory over Hamilton. Johnson ran for a season-high 273 yards on just 17 carries and scored all three touchdowns as the Lions improved to 2-2.

Football – defense

Cedric Henderson, Raleigh-Egypt: Henderson had four tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and also picked off a pass in his team's 25-0 victory over Wooddale. He's part of a defense that has shutouts in its past three games.

Girls soccer

Jenna Kemp, Houston: The senior announced her commitment to the University of Memphis earlier last week and celebrated with two fine games. She scored a hat trick in a 4-0 victory over Henry County before adding a goal on Saturday as the Mustangs beat Clarksville 4-1 in a battle between the past two Class AAA state champs.

Girls cross country

Gabrielle Sawyer, Collierville: Sawyer, a junior, was the top local girl at the Tennessee Classic in Nashville over the weekend, finishing in fourth place with a time of 20:10.57.

Golf

Joshua McCray and Bethany Dockery, White Station: The Spartans have dominated SCIAA competition for the past three decades and this week was no different as they won the boys and girls large schools titles at Fox Meadows. McCray (72) and Dockery (84) were the medalists.
