Father Ryan running back Jackson Byrd (22) powers through the Ravenood defense during the first half at Father Ryan High School Friday, Sept. 22, 2017 in Nashville, Tenn.

Father Ryan's Jackson Byrd scored his fourth touchdown of the night on a 23-yard run off a fake field goal with no time remaining to beat Ravenwood 34-31.

"Last year, we ran that against (Pope John Paul II) in the same spot and we didn't get it," Byrd said. "We practice it at least once a week."

Father Ryan improved to 3-3 for the season in the biggest win of the season for coach Brian Rector, who led Ravenwood to a Class 5A state championship in 2005.

The Irish got the ball with a little over a minute remaining following a missed 40-yard field by the Raptors.

Father Ryan drove 57 yards on eight plays and lined up for 40-yard field goal with six seconds left before faking the kick.

"Honestly, it's a situation we've practiced every week, and we sure have messed it up a few times this year," Rector said. "We finally got it right. It just feels that the kids didn't step on themselves.

"We've been struggling with learning how to win. I'm just so proud to pull it out. We needed a win so desperately."
