Ooltewah High School's Ally Chernak has accepted an offer to continue her softball career at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City.

Chernak has been to ETSU several times for softball games. Her sister, Kelsey, will be a senior for the Buccaneers next spring.

Ally said she had talked with ETSU coach Brad Irwin at a camp at Tennessee Tech and got an invitation to visit the campus. She went in January and was offered a scholarship then.

"It's just a pretty campus, completely," Ally said. "I loved the coaches; I loved all the girls. I just felt comfortable there."

Chernak helped the Lady Owls advance to the Class AAA state tournament last season. She batted .396 and was an All-District 5-AAA selection.

As an illustration of her defensive versatility, she played outfield last year, but Ooltewah coach Jon Massey is looking at moving her to second base for her senior season.

"She's going to put the ball in play," Massey said. "She's got a great attitude. She's a very coachable kid. I look for big things from her for us this year."
