CPA rains on Independence's homecoming parade

Homecoming couldn’t have gone worse for Independence.

The Eagles hosted DII-AA opponent Christ Presbyterian Academy in what should have been if not an easy win, at least a win. Instead CPA dropped Independence 55-20 after going an offensive frenzy in the second quarter that allowed the Lions to coast the rest of the game.

Independence has now lost its last two games by a total of 63 points.

Indy gets on the board

Independence suffered from the same issues as last week, sluggish play. The Eagles would not only struggle to score but to even make close. It would take until Independence was down 21-0 before Troy Henderson ran in a 3 yard run.

CPA makes it look easy

If a 14 point lead was enough, CPA quickly made sure they recaptured that 21 point-hold on the very next play. Dean Cooper returned the kickoff for a 100 yard touchdown putting the Lions at a 28-7 hold. Two minutes later CPA grabbed another score, this time a Ryan Eledge to Noah Henderson pass.

Offense efficiency

The Lions' roll in the second quarter was so efficient that not only did all four of the team's touchdowns take place in under 6 minutes, CPA managed all of those scores in only 5 plays. Three of the touchdowns were scored on a single drive.

Second half coasting

While Independence did manage two touchdowns in the second half, so did CPA. This, and good blocking opportunities allowed the Lions to take their foot off the gas and finish the game at a steadier pace than the rage from the second quarter.

Interceptions again

Just like last week, Independence's offensive woes came mostly from the team's inability to keep their hands on the ball. Many of quarterback Nathan Cisco's passes were incomplete and three were intercepted. Two of which, including Kane Patterson's pick in the end zone, set up CPA for touchdowns of their own.  Even the switch to freshman quarterback Jackson Campbell didn’t help this problem, as Jackson had an interception of his, this time by Dean Cooper, setting up CPA for another touchdown.
