Boyd-Buchanan's girls had the highest finish for any golf team in the school's history as the runners-up Tuesday in the TSSAA Division II-A state tournament at WillowBrook in Manchester.

Baylor's girls matched Monday's 155 for a two-day 310 and wound up third in the Division II-AA tournament. Girls Preparatory School was fourth at 327.

McCallie fell back in its second round and finished sixth in the DII-AA boys' field at 619. Memphis University School was the winner at 594.

Despite Lydia Campbell totaling 161 and tying for fourth individually and fellow junior Zacori Hill scoring 166 and tying for seventh, the Lady Buccaneers were 26 strokes behind winner Franklin Road Academy.

"I'm proud of them," Boyd-Buchanan coach Ed Connelly said of his players. "They played good golf, for the most part. The putting was a little off on a couple of holes, but other than that they did OK. I thought second was as good as we could get.

"Franklin Road Academy has a really good team. They scored really well. They're young, but they've got some good, solid golfers."

Baylor got a score of 153 from eighth-grader Kyndall Shamblin (tied for third) and a 157 from freshman Kelsey Hodge (sixth).

St. Agnes won the championship, overtaking first-day leader Ensworth by shooting a second-day 144 for a 299 total. Standout Rachel Heck (138) led the way by shooting 6 under par Tuesday.

"That's as good as we've played," Baylor coach Gary Partrick said. "I couldn't be more proud of them. In the two days we posted four scores in the 70s. You think about the 16 championships our program won in a row, and a total of about 310 would've won 12 of them. Not anymore."

Seniors McKenzie Frizzell and Hannah Prescott shot 162 and 165 and ended up 1oth and 12th individually.

The only McCallie golfer with a top-20 finish was junior Jake Allstun with 154. Sheldon McKnight, a Baylor eighth-grader, also shot 154 and was in the group tied for 19th.

"We competed," McCallie coach Rob Riddle said. "We just didn't play well. Something I did wasn't right. I don't know if it was that I didn't have them prepared, or whether I pushed the wrong buttons. The kids never did quit. They were disappointed. They know they're better than what they scored today. We struggled at the wrong time."
