Harpeth's Luke Gossett take off on the run.

After securing their first regional win of the season against Stewart County last week, the Indians dropped their third game in Region 6-3A with a 48-7 loss to Fairview.

“They’re the best team we’ve seen this year,” Harpeth coach Doug Loope said of Fairview. “With their balanced offense, they are the type of team that could a make deep playoff run.”

Harpeth’s touchdown against Fairview came in the second quarter as quarterback Luke Gossett connected with wide receiver Justin Utley for a 36-yard touchdown.

Despite the loss, Harpeth (4-4, 1-3 in Region 6-3A) remains alive in the playoff race, with a season finale road trip to Sycamore likely deciding the Indians fate.

“We have to win at Sycamore,” Loope said. “There is really no other way around it. We have to show up and perform well if we want the win and want to get in the playoffs.”

Harpeth is in fifth place in the region with two games to play.

The Indians are off Week 9, using their fall break as a chance to prepare for Fayetteville.

“They’re a good team that is always in the playoffs,” Loope said of Fayetteville. “We’ll take the week to focus ourselves and executing our plays. Most importantly, we will have some time to clean up things that have hurt us from winning.”
