Top Knoxville area high school football games in Week 9

Game of the week

Bearden (4-3, 1-2) at Farragut (7-1, 3-1)

The Admirals' 19-game win streak ended last week, setting up an interesting 1-6A rivalry game with the Bulldogs this week. Both quarterbacks have shown the ability to go off with a big game.

Dobyns-Bennett (4-3, 2-1) at Hardin Valley (4-3, 2-1)

The Indians upset previously undefeated Farragut last week to mix up 1-6A, where there are now four one-loss teams. The Hawks started the season off a little shaky but appear to have settled in behind running back Aaron Dykes.

Fulton (6-1, 3-0) at Campbell Co. (6-1, 2-1)

Campbell County's Elijah Phillips (15) runs the ball as Powell's Chris Harvey (37) goes for the tackle Sept. 29, 2017.

This matchup could have big implications in 3-5A with two high-scoring offenses meeting. The Falcons have beaten three region opponents 115-15 combined, and the Cougars are at a similar mark of 119-50.

Greeneville (7-0, 3-0) at Elizabethton (6-1, 3-0)

Both the Greene Devils and Fighting Cyclones have shown tight defenses through their first three 1-4A games. Greeneville has allowed 14 points; Elizabethton has given up 29.

Anderson Co. (7-0, 3-0) at Chattanooga Central (5-2, 4-0)

Heritage's Jackson Jett (3) is taken down during a game between Anderson County and Heritage on Sept. 22, 2017.

The Pounders got an edge on the Mavericks, taking first place in 2-4A while Anderson County was off last week. The Pounders have put up strong offensive numbers but will face a tight Mavericks defense.

Sweetwater (5-2, 2-1) at Loudon (6-1, 3-0)

Gavin Boruff's nine tackles led the Wildcats in a win over Polk County last week. Loudon has been strong in 3-3A but has yet to play the other top teams in the region.

Kingston (6-1, 2-1) at Alcoa (5-2, 3-0)

The Yellowjackets rolled past Scott last week while the Tornadoes were off. Alcoa has allowed only seven points in its three 2-3A games this season.

Midway (4-3, 1-2) at Sunbright (4-3, 2-3)

The Green Wave hasn't found its footing in 2-1A but put up numbers outside of the region. The Tigers struggled against the top of the region but have beaten the teams at the bottom.

Webb (3-3, 2-1) at Chattanooga Christian (5-2, 3-0)

The Spartans ran for five touchdowns against Boyd-Buchanan last week, while the Chargers were off. The two teams have nearly identical point totals in AA East (103 for Christian, 100 for Webb).

Halls (2-5, 2-1) at Gibbs (4-3, 2-1)

The Red Devils are looking to bounce back from their first 2-5A loss, at South-Doyle's hands, last week. The Eagles hope to carry momentum out of last week's win over Seymour.
