MURFREESBORO — Logan Eggleston put Brentwood on her back and took them to a fifth consecutive TSSAA Class AAA volleyball state championship.

The Brentwood volleyball team celebrates with their State Championship Trophy after beating Ravenwood during the TSSAA Class AAA State Girls’ Volleyball Tournament Championship game, on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, at MTSU. Faces left to right Morgan Carter (22) and Logan Eggleston (33), as Analeigh Wingo (25) and Garrett Joiner hold the trophy.

Eggleston, a Texas commitment, had a personal-best 47 kills in Brentwood's 3-2 championship win over Ravenwood. The Lady Bruins won 25-11 28-30, 22-25, 25-20, 15-1.

"In those crucial moments, I was like, 'You can trust me. I'm ready. I'm here. I want to win this so get me the ball,'" Eggleston said.

Eggleston, who was named the state championship game MVP, had 95 attempts in the game with just 11 errors. She accounted for 48 of her team's 88 points.

"She shouldered a tremendous amount of responsibility for us," Brentwood coach Barbara Campbell said.

Teammate Tori Carpenter, a College of Charleston commitment, dished out 55 assists. Teammate Andrea Aceveda a Furman commitment, had 25 digs.

Camille Spencer led Ravenwood with 17 kills. Teammate Sam Rickert had 37 assists.

The volleyball championship was Brentwood's 13th overall. All have been under Campbell, who is now 1,626-289 at Brentwood. Her win total ranks her third nationally and second among active coaches. She is the all-time winningest volleyball coach in Tennessee.

Brentwood also won five straight state championships from 1998-2002.

The all-Williamson County final was the fifth since 2008 and third Brentwood-Ravenwood final. Brentwood beat Ravenwood in the 2013 Class AAA final and Ravenwood beat the Lady Bruins in 2012.

Ravenwood took a 2-1 lead after the Lady Bruins won Game 1. But Brentwood countered.

"We would have loved to have won this in three," Campbell said. "The fight that Ravenwood put forth. You have to give them credit.

"The fight made the win even more rewarding."

Ravenwood was playing in its sixth state tournament final with three championships. The Lady Raptors reached the championship game by winning four straight games after losing their first game on the opening day of the tournament.
