White House celebrates after beating Greeneville 1-0 in the Class AA state soccer championship Saturday at Richard Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

MURFREESBORO — Greeneville's bid for a third straight state title was denied on a cold, blustery afternoon Saturday.

White House's Shelby Deering scored in the opening minutes of the second half for the game's only goal in the Lady Blue Devils' 1-0 win in the TSSAA Class AA girls soccer state championship game at Richard Siegel Soccer Complex.

The title was the first for White House.

Here are five things to know about the game:

Lots of action on both ends

Both teams had 11 shots, about half of which went on net.

"We knew it was going to be a tight game," Greeneville coach John Eiskamp said. "We knew it wasn't going to be 3-0 or 4-0 game. It was going be a 1-0 or 2-1 game. We had some good looks, but we couldn't find the back of the net."

One goal the difference

Deering's goal came 1:54 into the second half and turned out to be the only score.

"They got too close to our box and we allowed them to take the shot from the top of the 18(-yard mark) and (Deering) found the back of the net," Eiskamp said.

White House gets revenge

Greeneville and White House met last year in the state tournament, with Greeneville scoring the last four goals in a 5-1 semifinal win.

Used to success

Murfreesboro had been good to Greeneville.

In previous title games, Greeneville beat CPA last year and Chattanooga Christian two years ago. Coming into Saturday match, Greeneville had won eight straight tournament matches by a combined 33-2 score.

Goodbye to seniors

Greeneville's roster lists seven seniors, six of whom played on Saturday. Those graduating include Elissa McIntosh (who had a hat trick in the quarterfinals), leading scorer Sabrina Iezzi and goalkeeper Hannah Leonard.
