How the Nashville area finished in the Tennessee state cross country championships

Brentwood Academy placed four boys cross country runners in the top five to roll to the program's fourth consecutive TSSAA Division II-AA state championship on Saturday.

The Eagles finished with 31 points. Brentwood Academy junior Matthew McMillan won his first state title in 16:34.39 at the Steeplechase course at Percy Warner Park. Teammate Matthew Porter was second (16:43.67) and Father Ryan's Ryan Knapp was third (16:55.57).

McMillan was one of three individual state champions from the Nashville area.

Brentwood Academy senior Meredith Helton, a Wake Forest commitment, won her second straight championship in 19:03.22.

Henry County senior Titus Winders won his first title, winning the Division I Large School race in 15:27.92. His time was the fastest among all runners competing in the eight races. He finished third a year ago in the Class AAA meet.

Winders finished just ahead of his younger brother Silas for a 1-2 finish for Henry County. Silas, a sophomore, finished in 15:41.28. Beech's David Ahlmeyer was third (15:55.63).

Siegel won the Large School boys classification with 72 points — 56 more than second-place Knoxville Catholic. Senior Dawson Reed led the Stars with a sixth-place finish (16:09.32). Oakland was third with 206 points.

Ravenwood won its second straight girls state title, winning the Large School race with 102 points. Houston was second with 132. Annika Sleenhof finished sixth (19:18.84) to lead the Lady Raptors. Cookeville's Landri Wilcox finished second (18:34.93).

Brentwood Academy's string of back-to-back girls titles was snapped. The Lady Eagles finished second to Girls Preparatory School. BA had 69 points, six more than GPS.

USN finished second in the Division II-A boys and girls races. The USN girls had 68 points, 35 more than state champion Knoxville Webb. Davidson Academy's Lucy Rutherford finished fifth (20:37.12) to be the top Nashville area finisher.

USN boys had 67 points, five more than state champion Chattanooga Christian. Nick Sieders finished third for the USN boys (17:09) to be the top area finisher.

Merrol Hyde's Alex Ponce finished second (17:19.31) in the Small School race ahead of Cascade's Cole Relford (17:24.50). Westmoreland was the top area team, finishing sixth with 220 points.

White House Heritage placed second in the Small School girls race with 94 points. Signal Mountain won with 42. Samantha Church was sixth (21:52.84 to pace Heritage's runner-up finish.
