JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Three Science Hill student-athletes celebrated the start of the fall National Signing period by signing national letters of intent in ceremonies on Wednesday afternoon.

Hilltopper baseball players David Bryant and Brandon Feathers both inked with Radford while track and cross country runner Gabrielle Mardis is headed to Milligan.

Feathers was Science Hill’s top pitcher last spring, going 7-1 with a 2.13 ERA and 56 strikeouts and only eight walks in 52 2/3 innings pitched.

In 95 varsity innings, the 6-4, 210-pound right-hander has compiled a 2.06 ERA with 97 strikeouts and a dozen victories.

“Brandon enters his senior season as the anchor to our pitching staff,” said Science Hill coach Ryan Edwards. “We expect Brandon to be one of the top pitchers in East Tennessee this season.”

Bryant broke into the Hilltoppers’ line-up as a freshman, hitting .255 in 47 at-bats. The 6-1, 175-pound Bryant played second base as a junior and hit .362 with 2 home runs and 32 RBI’s. Bryant also logged seven doubles and four triples.

“David pushed his way into the line-up as a freshman and has been an everyday guy since,” added Edwards, who will move Bryant over to shortstop this season.

“David is our anchor in the field and anchor in the middle of the order,” continued Edwards.

Both Bryant and Feathers were all-conference selections in 2017.

Mardis is coming off her fourth consecutive appearance in the TSSAA State Cross Country Championships, where she finished 25th overall in the Girls’ Large School Division.

Mardis lead the Lady ‘Toppers to team titles in the Cherokee Invitational and the Randy Smith Classic this season and also placed third in the Big 11 Conference and Region 1 Championships.

“Gabrielle has had an exceptional high school running career, with her senior cross country season being especially impressive,” said Science Hill cross country coach Mary Adams.

On the track, Mardis finished an impressive fifth in the 3200 meters at the Hoko Posta National meet in Knoxville with a personal-best of 11:40.
