Nashville area high school football athletes stand out in East's All-Star win

The East held off the West to win the 11th annual Toyota East vs. West TN All-Star Classic on Friday night at Austin Peay's Fortera Stadium.

The West holds a 6-5 series edge in the game.

Here are four things to know from the game.

Region 3-6A produces game winner

A trick play involving a pair of standouts from Region 3-6A helped produced the game-winning score for the East.

The East made it 16-3 on its first play of the second half 12 seconds into the third quarter when Coffee County's Alontae Taylor hit Riverdale's Savion Davis, the Tennessee Titans Class 6A Mr. Football, on a double pass.

Taylor's big play came a day after the former Tennessee commitment said his final three college choices include Georgia, Louisville and Tennessee.

Nashville area sweeps MVP honors

Area athletes received all four MVP awards following the contest.

Taylor was the East team Offensive MVP. Taylor had three catches for 71 yards, ran two times for 26 yards and had 83 yards passing.

East teammate Tony Thompson, a linebacker from Mt. Juliet, had six tackles with an interception.

Cane Ridge's Jahsun Bryant was the West team Defensive MVP after recording three tackles with two for loss. He also blocked a punt.

Giles County quarterback John Bachus, a UT Martin commitment, was the West team Offensive MVP after completing 13-of-21 passing for 144 yards with a touchdown and an interception. 

East never trailed

Science Hill's Jaylan Adams gave the East a 7-0 lead with 2:16 left in the first quarter when he broke free for a 20-yard TD run on the fourth play of an 84-yard drive.

The East pushed the lead to 10-0 after Bledsoe County's Gabe Boring, the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football Kicker of the Year, booted a 39-yard field goal with nine seconds left in the first half.

Cordova's Jacolby Hewitt, an Indiana commitment, scored the West team's lone touchdown when he caught a 5-yard TD pass from Bachus. Hewitt had 69 yards on six catches for the game.

Other standouts

► Hendersonville's Anthony Hughes had 54 yards on 11 carries for the West team.

► TCA punter Noah Holsinger had two punts for a 45.5-yard average for the West team. He also had a 31-yard field goal.

► Cordova's Tracy Williams had six tackles and half of a sack for the West team.

► Germantown's Jaylin Williams, an Indiana commitment, had two tackles and broke up three passes for the West.

► Jackson County's Colby Long had six tackles and a tackle for loss for the East.

► Alcoa's Jack Warwick had six tackles and a tackle for loss.

► Mt. Juliet's Aidan Raines had five tackles with a tackle for loss, broke up two passes and recovered a fumble.
