‘Landers, Lady ‘Landers roll past Rockwood

The Cloudland basketball programs picked up a pair of wins on Thursday night in non-conference action.

The Lady ‘Landers stormed to a 62-29 victory over Rockwood, while the CHS boys picked up a 66-46 win over the Tigers.


In the girls’ game, Cloudland controlled the game from the opening tip. Trinity Vines scored eight points in the opening minutes to power CHS to a 22-4 lead in the first quarter, and the Lady ‘Landers maintained a 34-15 lead at the half.

Any thought of a Rockwood comeback was erased in the second half as CHS outscored Rockwood 27-14 in the final eight minutes.

Vines finished with 15 points, while Stacia Wilson tallied 11 points. Megan Lunsford had nine points. Olivia Chambers and Abbey Gouge had six points each.

In the boys’ game, the ‘Landers used a strong second half to pull away to take the win. Cloudland saw Rockwood score the first nine points over the opening six minutes but stormed back to close the gap to 11-8 at the end of the first
quarter.

Josh Blair scored 11 points in the second quarter to power Cloudland to a 24-18 lead at the half.

The CHS offense started clicking on all cylinders in the third quarter as they outscored the Tigers 20-13 in the second. Robert Leeper had a solid fourth quarter to secure the win for the ‘Landers.

Blair and Leeper had 15 points apiece. Thomas Hicks added seven points, while Hunter Shell and Dillon Johnson tallied six points each.

Colton Nuckols led Rockwood with 18 points.
