Meet the 2017 Commercial Appeal all-metro boys cross country team
Meet the members of The Commercial Appeal's 2017 boys all-metro cross country teams.
The runner of the year will be announced at the Sports Awards, which takes place June 5 at the Orpheum.
First team
(Nominees for Boys Runner of the Year)
Jared Briant
Collierville, Sr.
Why chosen: Briant had a season-best time of 16:31 and also won the Region 8 championship. His 17:09.01 at the Large School state meet was the second-fastest time of any Shelby County runner in any division, behind teammate Garrett Meier.
Tyler Casey
CBHS, Jr.
Why chosen: Casey had a personal-best of 16:38 during the regular season. He then went on to place fourth in the Division II-AA region race and eighth at state in 17:20.98.
Hastings McEwan
MUS, Sr.
Why chosen: McEwan finished third at the Frank Horton Invitational, second in the Shelby County championship and first in the DII-AA region meet while posting a Shelby County-best 16:20 during the season. He placed ninth at the state meet (17:21.01) after batting flu the week prior.
Garrett Meier
Collierville, Jr.
Why chosen: Meier turned in a personal-best 16:22, which was the third-fastest time among all Shelby County runners. He finished fourth at the Frank Horton, second in the Region 8 and had the fastest time of any local runner in the Large School state meet, finishing in 17:00.28.
Bradley Turner
Houston, Jr.
Why chosen: Turner turned in a personal-best 16:27 this season. He finished first at the West Tennessee championships and came in third in Region 8. He finished the Large School state meet in 17:39.89.
