The Brentwood Academy defense held Wasatch Academy, Utah’s No. 2-ranked team, to a season-low in the first round of the 34th annual Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions in Springfield, Mo. Thursday.

The Eagle boys posted a 57-46 victory paced by Darius Garland’s game-high 29 points and seven rebounds on the big stage. The tournament is recognized as the top high school basketball tournament in the nation. It is also the most attended with nearly 30,000 in attendance last year at Missouri State University’s JQH Arena.

The Tigers’ previous low this season was 60 points entering Thursday’s contest. The loss was just their second on the season.

Cam Johnson added 10 points and five rebounds for BA, which held Wasatch Academy to 39 percent shooting. The Tigers hit just 2-of-16 from long range. The Eagles improved to 10-3.

BA led by seven at the half and built an 11-point lead in the third before Wasatch Academy closed within 38-36 to start the final frame.

California commit Matt Bradley scored 20 points to lead the Tigers.

BA faces La Lumiere School Friday at 8 p.m.

The Lakers are led by Tyger Campbell, who first splashed on the hoops recruiting scene as a youngster at Nashville's Christ Presbyterian Academy before transferring. La Lumiere topped the home town Glendale Falcons 91-65 in their tournament opener Thursday.

Campbell posted 17 points and six assists in the win.

Dickson County girls 50, Summit 35

The Lady Cougars doubled up visiting Summit in the fourth quarter to pull away for the District 11-AAA victory and stay atop the league standings.

Olivia Rinehart led the home team with 18 points, including three triples.

The Lady Spartans led by a bucket after the first quarter and trailed 32-26 to enter the fourth quarter before being outscored 18-9 in the final eight minutes.

Ellie Colson scored 16 points and Natalie Rolen added 10 for Summit.
