Lady Rangers roll to win at North; Rangers drop game

The Unaka girls’ basketball program continued their hot streak on Friday night.

The Lady Rangers cruised to a 68-22 victory over Sullivan North. In the boys’ game, the Rangers were unable to shake off a sluggish first half in a 59-42 loss to the Raiders.

For the Lady Rangers, it was nothing but smooth sailing.
Unaka jumped out to a 24-3 lead in the first quarter and increased the advantage to 36-13 at the half. The Lady Rangers were never threatened as they outscored North 32-9 in the second half – including a fourth-quarter shutout.

Myah Parlier had 18 points to lead all scorers, while Lexi Garland, Savannah Tipton and Cydney Forney had nine points apiece. Sydney Markland and Erika Potter had eight points each.

In the boys’ game, Unaka found themselves in an early deficit.

Sullivan North held a 16-5 lead after the first quarter and limited the Rangers to just eight points in the second stanza.
That allowed the Raiders to take a 32-13 lead into the second half.

Unaka settled down in the second half but was unable to rally back.

Isaac Hill had 29 points to lead Unaka. Daniel Ensor had six points.
