Clarksville Academy began its Division II-A Middle Region District 4 basketball tournament Tuesday as both girls and boys picked up wins.

Daniel Loos was dominant with a double-double. He finished with 16 points and 15 rebounds as the Academy (21-7) drubbed Hendersonville Christian 74-45. Brandon Huntley added 11 points and six boards, and Nolan Johnson added 11 points.

Clarksville Academy boys coach Matt Wallace inserts one of his players into the lineup during the first half against the University School of Nashville Tuesday night.

On the girls sisde, Sydneey Boykin had 21 points and six rebounds to lead the Lady Cougars (18-11) past Donelson Christian 52-45.

The boys travel to Goodpasture for the district semifinal against the winner of Donelson Christian/University School of Nashville at 5 p.m. Friday.

Clarksville Academy coach Carrie Daniels kneels to talk to her team, including Keisha Phillips (left) and Sydneey Boykin (right) during a basketball game in January 2018.

The girls compete in Friday's semifinal game at 6:30 against host school Goodpasture. Goodpasture beat Clarksville Academy 55-32 on Jan. 26.

CHS girls having a surprise season

Clarksville High's girls captured at least a share of the District 10-AAA basketball regular-season championship Tuesday night.

Lucy Chilcutt, 13, tries to avoid a block from Nevaeh Tharpe, 44, during Clarksville High's game against Northeast on February 6, 2018.

Clarksville rolled past Northeast 64-21 to improve to 18-6 and 14-1 in district play. The Lady Wildcats face Henry County in a huge game Friday and will do so without star forward Deja Walls.

Walls picked up two technical fouls and did not play in Tuesday's win against Northeast. She'll also have to sit Friday.

Scotti Harrison, 2, dribbles toward the basket during Clarksville High's game against Northeast on February 6, 2018.

Clarksville's emergence to the top of the district is a surprising development considering the offense the Lady Wildcats lost to graduation last year, along with two season-ending injuries (including starting point guard Ellie Treanton) and the youth on coach Brian Rush's team.

Rossview is in second place in district (13-2) and faces Northwest on Friday. Henry County is 12-2 in the district. If Clarksville can knock off the Lady Patriots, it will win the regular-season crown outright.

Individual wrestlers looking for state berth

After Clarksville High and Rossview were shut out during the state duals last week, several individual high school wrestlers from the Clarksville area are looking to get to Franklin via the Region 6 individual tournament.

Clarksville High's Christian Isbell faces Northwest's Xavier Morse during their 120-pound match in the District 12 Duals Wednesday at Northwest High School.

The tournament begins at 6 p.m. Friday at Kenwood High School and will continue at 10 a.m. Saturday with the region championships in each weight class beginning in the early afternoon.

Former Rossview star honored by Belmont

Former Rossview star and Belmont track and field standout Lynette Rives has been inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame, according to Belmont's web site.

Rives came to Belmont in 2005 as the most accomplished track athlete in Rossview's short history (the school opened in 2001) and she promptly became the most accomplished track star at Belmont.
