Chattanooga Christian wins DecoTurf girls' E title; GPS B runner-up

Chattanooga Christian School won the girls' E Division in the mammoth DecoTurf high school tennis tournament held Friday and Saturday in Chattanooga, and Girls Preparatory School in the B Division and Signal Mountain and Notre Dame in boys' E and F were runners-up.

There were 11 divisions and about 80 teams in all - ranging from South Carolina and Florida to California - and the tournament used city courts at the Champions Club, Warner Park and Brainerd as well as private-school facilities at McCallie, Baylor and GPS.

The CCS girls beat out Buford (Ga.) for the E title, and Buford won the Notre Dame boys' division. GPS was second to another Georgia school, North Gwinnett from Suwanee. Signal Mountain's boys were second to Parkersburg High from West Virginia.

Spartanburg (S.C.) won the boys' A Division with Hinsdale (Ill.) Central second, and Vandegrift from Austin, Texas, won the top girls' title with Cambridge from Milton, Ga., the runner-up.

Briarwood Christian from Birmingham won in boys' B, Edwardsville (Ill.) in boys' C and Trinity from Louisville, Ky., in boys' D. Another Louisville team, duPont Manual, was the girls' C champion, and Valor Christian from Highlands Ranch, Colo., won the girls' D bracket.
