Bennett’s Walk-Off Homer Give Lady ‘Toppers Win Over Crockett

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Kasey’s Bennett’s one-out two-run opposite field walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Science Hill a dramatic 2-1 Big 7 Conference softball victory over David Crockett Monday afternoon at Kiwanis Park.
The Lady Pioneers had led 1-0 since the top of the first and rode the splendid pitching of Kara Weems until Bennett connected in the seventh.
Sejal Neas started the seventh with a single to left and advanced to set on Gia Hickman’s sacrifice bunt.
Bennett worked a 1-1 count until crushing the winning blast over the left field wall. Bennett also doubled and walked early in the game.
Both teams finished with six hits. The Lady Pioneers’ run came when Sydney Fox doubled to lead off the game and scored a batter later on Lenzie Jenkins’ single.
Weems struck out nine and walked five in the tough defeat while Neas struck out three and walked one in the complete game victory.
