Vote for the Tennessean boys athlete of the week for March 12-17

The high school spring season kicked off last week.

The poll runs until 3:30 p.m. Friday. The winner receives tickets for The Tennessean Sports Awards presented by Farm Bureau Health Plans.

Here is a list of candidates for The Tennessean's player of the week:

Drew Benefield, Siegel baseball. Benefield was 8-for-17 with five home runs, two singles, a double and drew nine walks. He scored 11 runs and had eight RBI.

Juan Cernas, Smyrna soccer. Cernas scored five goals and had two assists in four games.

Will Crain, Stewart County baseball. Crain went 1-0 on 108 pitches where he struck out 13, walked one and didn’t allow a run.

Chase Farler, Tullahoma soccer. Farler scored four goals and had an assist in two games.

Mykal Manfred, Gallatin soccer. Manfred recorded three shutouts to help Gallatin start 3-0 this season.

Avery O’Bryan, White House baseball. O’Bryan went 4-for-8 with 2 doubles, a grand slam and 11 RBI. He also picked up a win in four innings where he struck out seven, gave up one hit and didn’t allow an earned run.

Travis Odom, CPA baseball. Odom was 5-for-10 with three home runs and a double. He had eight RBI and stole five bases.

Brandon Rooney, Stewarts Creek baseball. Rooney went 11-for-19 with three doubles, two home runs and had 10 RBI with six runs scored.

Taylor Smith, Hillwood soccer. Smith has allowed one goal on 37 shots in three games for the Hilltoppers, who are off to a 3-0 start.

Tashinga Vhumisai, FRA soccer. Vhumisai scored five goals and had an assist.
